Security Tips

Follow our top tips from our fraud experts:

  • If you move house (even if it's only temporary), tell your bank, credit card and utility providers. Use the Royal Mail redirection service and consider registering with the mail preference service at www.mpsonline.org.uk to prevent mail going to your old address. Also tell your providers if you change your work, home or mobile telephone numbers.
  • If you are travelling abroad, please call MBNA in advance to let us know. This will help us to manage your account whilst you are away should any problems arise.
  • Register with MBNA's Online Banking service to regularly review your account for unusual transactions.
  • Set up a password on your account. Don't make your password obvious for people to guess and never disclose your password to anyone.
  • Keep your PIN numbers safe. Always shield your PIN at tills or cash points and don't write down or disclose it to anyone, even MBNA. When you receive your preassigned PIN, change it to a number that you prefer and will easily remember .
  • Treat your cards like cash. Never let your cards out of your sight when paying in shops or restaurants, as they may be copied or cloned. Don't leave them on show or 'behind the bar'.
  • Only carry the cards you need in case you have your wallet/purse stolen.
  • When logging on to banking and membership websites, ensure that you type in the web address rather than by clicking on a link-especially in emails.
  • Keep your personal information safe. If you receive any enquiry (by telephone, post, email or doorstep) from someone asking for passwords, account details or other personal information, refuse and advise them that you will call their company to confirm their credentials.
